Digital testing in practice

In this knowledge item, we will take you on a journey through the implementation of a digital testing solution. We hope that this will inspire you to prepare the digital testing environment well. After all, technology is only a very limited part of a successful digital testing solution. The experience of how technology ‘works along’ and facilitates the taking of digital tests, that is the holy grail.

We have seen it before: From an enthusiastic group of teachers with technical affinity, the idea arises to no longer administer tests on paper. After all, the advantages, as outlined, are almost endless and a lot can be achieved with a small investment.

Fast forward to using the test solution. Teachers appear to be very busy and digital testing also requires some preparation and testing. The OER contains all kinds of conditions under which digital testing is permitted and the classrooms appear not to be easy to make cheat-proof. And testing with digital resources also leads to other questions during the test. I forgot my ruler, becomes: My computer does not show the correct test…

And what about the choices that all have to be made in the preliminary phase? Are we going to test on the students' own laptops? Can we use the School network (for example Eduroam) or is it better to create a test network? What requirements does the examination board actually set for fraud prevention? And are these preventive measures (proctoring) actually allowed under the GDPR and privacy legislation?

Based on our experience with the implementation of digital testing and (more specifically) with the implementation of application testing, we can determine the appropriate solution for your context for all these questions (and more), in collaboration with policy makers, teachers, IT department, educationalists and supervisors.
